Did you perhaps define a lot of large string fields? The HyPer demo allocates the maximum string length per field, which can lead to such effects.

We have changed that a while ago, but the demo was not updated yet. If you are interested in trying it out just send me a mail, I can send you an unstable snapshot.
Thomas Neumannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15209393663505917383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891884956165580080.post-88320659923915806592015-02-04T16:38:56.142+01:002015-02-04T16:38:56.142+01:00Dear HyPer Team
Thank you very much for the demo,...Dear HyPer Team

Thank you very much for the demo, it is amazing and really helps to get a feeling for that stuff :-)

One question: I tried to populate my database (1 table, 500 columns) with 10,000 records (~30MB of raw data) on my 16-GB-RAM Desktop machine. However, HyPer ran out of memory (I got a std::bad_alloc exception). Can you explain what went wrong? Population with 1000 records worked, but it also consumed ~14GB of main memory...

Looking forward to the extended demo with client sessions :-)
Keep up the good work!

Best regards,
Lucas BraunLucas Braunhttp://people.inf.ethz.ch/braunl/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891884956165580080.post-67269722323695907062014-12-09T08:35:18.133+01:002014-12-09T08:35:18.133+01:00On which system are you trying that? But of course not on 32bit systems, ARM, or anything else.Thomas Neumannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15209393663505917383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891884956165580080.post-59001688387526061032014-12-09T07:11:28.194+01:002014-12-09T07:11:28.194+01:00./sql
